Spinning Sun's exuberant new work Left and Right premiered in June 2009. This dance is a  grand collaboration between choreographer by Ann Dewey, writer Jo Randerson and musician/composer Charlotte Rose. Dancing in the work are Liz Kirk, Julie van Renen, Geoff Gilson and Sarah Baron. Set and costumes have been knitted by a team of 25 knitters dotted around the globe and are an absolute textural treat.

Left and Right is created from ever-changing patterns and textures, much like an Aran jumper . The dancers whip through the space with precision, speed and a sense of joy. Music, words and light wind through the dance to create an odd magic.

Ann’s aim in making the work was to play with pattern and rhythm.  She engages the viewer through a cleverly constructed original world.

"I am interested in making dances that are full of surprises, little presents and the feeling of pure joy.  I feel full of  the world when I dance, I  want to give the audience this experience when they watch dance."

“I stick with the things that I love, creating pathways for dance and enlighting people’s spirits through contemporary choreography. The aim of Spinning Sun is to continue making work that inspires and challenges not only the audience but the dancers as well” says Ann.

The creation of Left and Right was funded through CNZ New Work. The dance took nine months to create, and is currently being refined for its next season in New Caledonia later in 2010.

Nick Bright, a first-timer to dance said about Left and Right:
"I have never been to dance before and a friend of ours told us to come and see it. I am amazed at the integrity of movement, the fluidity, intensity and passion. Dance is the ultimate expression of humanity and the crew of dancers here tonight showed true motive and connection between each other and the lineal soundscape. " He also added, "I was amazed that they all knew when to leap, lift and run."
