Flicker (2008)

How do we see and hear, what do we see and hear, how selective are our senses?

Prepare your eyes and ears to open wide.
A humorous reminder of home, a vision of children pulling faces like monsters, a spark from the past.

Flicker is a contemporary dance work for four dancers choreographed by Ann Dewey, with a sublime original score by John Gibson and David Kilgour. It is a journey through light and dark, silence and sound. Humour and mystery combine to form a work of great beauty. Flicker has delighted diverse audiences from Douglas Wright to first time dance goers.

The creation of Flicker was funded through CNZ New Work. The dance took six months to create, was first performed in March 08 and has subsequently been refined for each new season.

All the elements of Flicker that have developed from a series of images and thoughts in Ann Dewey's mind to become a stimulating and entertaining dance work.

"My maternal grandmother thinking ahead as World War two approaches. Fireflies dancing in the garden of my upstate New York home and a vision of my brother aged thirteen stuffing cheese straws up his nose, desperately trying to impress my friend Emma. It sort of worked!"
